On June 23rd VixBigCakeathon was to be held in John and Ruth Capell’s garden but due to the cancellation of the English summer the event was transferred to the Village Hall! The support for our cake sale was overwhelming. Many cakes were donated including five from our local surgery.
From carrot cake to coffee and walnut cake, fro cider fruit cake to bannoffee cake, from scones with jam and clotted cream to date and pecan slice, the choices were enormous and completely calorie free! Held and support was in abundance – when we arrived at the hall all the chairs and tables had already been put out, there were washers up aplenty, and two of our friends, Ann & Bas came from Monmouth to help.
The hall was packed and buzzing as villagers chatted and gorged themselves on the delightful fare. Four members of the Taunton Deane Male Voice Choir came to support with wives and friends – many members of the choir who were unable to attend gave donations amounting to well over £100. John spoke to all present telling them how much Vicky had packed into her life and how inspirational she had been to us all who knew her, he thanked them for their support.
Our proceeds were split between Vicky’s chosen charity and the CGD Society in support of Simon and Simone who both have CGD. We were absolutely amazed when we counted the money to find that we had raised £518. The wonderful people of Goathurst certainly know how to enjoy cakes, have a good chin wag and raise lots of dosh
