In November 2010, while pursuing a successful career in pharmaceutical anti-cancer drug development, Vicky Galbraith found herself diagnosed with a rare cancerous brain tumour. Since then she has undergone major surgery to remove the tumour and had six weeks of combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy. A further six months of intensive chemotherapy lie ahead. During this period she is organising and participating in a sponsored BIG WALK TO CLINIC from the Isle of Skye where her diagnosis began, to the Beatson Cancer Care Centre at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow, a total distance of 215 miles!
The first section of the journey, from Portree to Fort William, will be undertaken by her father, Alasdair, and Vicky plans to walk the second section herself from Fort William, following the West Highland Way south to Glasgow, some 103 miles!
It is hoped that many other sponsored walkers will join them at various stages of the walk, especially on the final day from Milngavie to the Beatson.
